Agreement is nearly reached

Antoine Semenyo is on the verge of a high-profile move to Manchester City. Reports indicate that representatives for Semenyo are currently in Manchester negotiating personal terms, with Pep Guardiola’s team prepared to activate the player’s release clause. The 25-year-old has a €74.5m release clause in his contract with Bournemouth, which is valid from January 1st to January 10th.
Several Premier League clubs have shown interest in Semenyo; however, Manchester City is the only team to have made an official bid to Bournemouth. Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United have all expressed interest in the Ghanaian international, but his inclination is to join Guardiola’s side. It’s anticipated that personal terms will be settled quickly, allowing Semenyo to sign with the reigning champions shortly after the transfer window opens on Thursday.
Why Manchester City is pursuing Semenyo
One might question Manchester City’s eagerness to sign Semenyo, given their existing depth of players for wide positions. Semenyo has primarily operated on the left-wing, a role currently filled by the impressive Jérémy Doku this season. Additionally, Savinho and Omar Marmoush are both capable of playing in that position, with City having invested €75 million last January to acquire Marmoush from Frankfurt.
However, City obviously sees Semenyo as an attractive acquisition at a competitive price, and he could play a pivotal role in their pursuit of another Premier League title. The winger has had a standout 18 months at Bournemouth, contributing 12 goals and assists in the league this season—only Erling Haaland and Igor Thiago have more contributions.
