Despite a disheartening 3-0 loss to Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday, Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim remained resolute. This defeat dropped the Red Devils to 14th place in the league, managing only four points from their first four matches. This marks the club's worst start to a league season since the 1992/93 campaign and leaves Amorim with a mere 31 points from 31 top-flight games. Nonetheless, the 40-year-old coach vowed to maintain his approach.

“I will not change. If I want to alter my philosophy, I will. Otherwise, it's about changing the individual,” Amorim told reporters after the match. “We discuss my philosophy every time we lose a game. I believe in my methods and will stick to them until I choose to change.” This defiant stance raises questions about whether he is resisting media scrutiny or signaling to club officials amid his lackluster record, prompting the management to reconsider the team's progress under Amorim since he took over last November.

The table above clearly illustrates that since Amorim's arrival at Manchester United, the club has been among the poorest performers in the Premier League. As previously highlighted, his record stands at just 31 points from 31 games, tying them with Tottenham. They are only ahead of last season's relegated teams and this season's newly promoted sides, who have played fewer matches. Moreover, Amorim's points-per-game average in the league is a mere 1.00—a significant drop of 42 percent compared to his predecessor Erik ten Hag's average of 1.72.

It will likely come as no surprise to Old Trafford supporters that Amorim currently holds the lowest points-per-game average of any Manchester United manager since Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement in 2013. The table below demonstrates that not only has Amorim fared worse than his immediate predecessor, but he also lags behind Ole Gunnar Solskjær, José Mourinho, Louis Van Gaal, and David Moyes. Given that each of those managers faced criticism for underperforming, it appears only a matter of time before Amorim faces a similar reckoning unless results markedly improve.
