Goalkeepers are truly a unique group, known for their camaraderie and support for one another, and that certainly holds true for Mee.
He takes immense pride in his role at Carrington, representing one of the world’s most prominent clubs.
“As keepers, we all acknowledge that our position isn’t the easiest,” he shared. “We are fundamentally different from outfield players. There’s a special bond among us; many of us genuinely wish for each other’s success, even those at rival clubs. A significant part of my training each week is focused on preparing the number one goalkeeper, ensuring he is ready to help the team win.”
“I realize that I play a vital role and am an integral part of the squad. I have a strong rapport with Bruno [Fernandes], and during penalty practice, I contribute to the team’s overall success. The number one has the intense pressure of preparing for the game, so my training helps ease that burden.”
“Being a part of Manchester United is something I thoroughly enjoy. My mother had posters of Mark Hughes on her wall, and my grandad was a dedicated United supporter. I’ve always cherished the club and the city, and I feel like I contribute daily.”
“Over the past year, I’ve worked with various goalkeeping coaches, each bringing a unique approach. I absorb insights from each to improve both as a goalkeeper and as an individual. I’m also pursuing a degree right now, as the PFA is offering a three-year course in football and business management with the University of Portsmouth, conducted entirely online.”
“Since I don’t have the same pressures to play, I see this as a chance to focus on my personal growth as well.”
“I’ve learned from many coaches like Richard Hartis, Jorge Vital, and Craig Mawson. I’m focused on enhancing my skills to translate them into solid performances during matches. I’ve had the opportunity to play with the Under-21s, and, of course, playing in the first team is the ultimate dream and the reason for my passion for football. However, I also take great satisfaction from being part of the Manchester United first team and supporting my teammates.”
“I believe I show my value in different ways outside of match play, which is a bonus. I’m excited about my career progression and am eager to start playing more regularly. While games are undeniably enjoyable, it’s important to find joy in the daily grind of training to continue improving.”
“I’ve represented Northern Ireland and had amazing experiences traveling, and international football is a whole different ball game. If I keep playing well, I hope to earn a spot on the senior squad in the future. I can’t imagine doing anything else—being with United is a dream come true, and it truly feels special.”
