MIXED FEELINGS
“It was a mixed performance. We started fairly well, but the first goal from Brighton really deflated us, and after that, we struggled to maintain our tempo. We didn’t make enough incisive passes or test their defense properly, and our overall play was slower than it should have been, so I challenged the players at half-time. It reminded me of our game against Burnley earlier in the week – we need to move the ball with composure but also with urgency, which proved to be challenging. We did create several chances, but going down 2-0 was disappointing; however, I was pleased with how the team responded. When we pulled it back to 2-1, I thought ‘this is it.’ The crowd’s energy lifted, but ultimately we weren’t able to find an equalizer. It’s evident that the players are feeling fragile right now, and it’s crucial for them to build themselves back up; the responsibility is on their shoulders.”
A LOT AT STAKE THIS SEASON
“Absolutely, there’s a lack of confidence within the squad, and conceding goals further undermines their morale. Confidence is vital in football, and when it’s missing, they need to dig deep, fight, work hard, and win games to restore it. However, these are experienced and talented players, and I’ve urged them to regroup. It’s up to them now to step up and lead. They still have plenty to play for this season. This team possesses the potential to achieve success, but they must find the inner strength to overcome these challenges.”
