The key question on everyone’s mind is: do you wish to extend your stay beyond the Burnley game? Given your extensive experience at this club and your strong connection to it, are you looking to secure the manager’s position on a permanent basis?
“To be honest, I haven’t considered that. My focus right now is solely on Burnley. Any discussions about the future can happen after the match. There’s been so much happening in such a short time, and I’m pouring all my energy and thoughts into the upcoming game with Burnley. I know it sounds like a standard response, but it’s the truth.”
What will your backroom team look like for this game and possibly beyond?
“Well, I’ll be working closely with Travis Binnion, who leads the Under-21s and was with me at the Academy when I began my coaching journey. I’ve known him for five years, and I couldn’t ask for a better partner in this role. We have a strong relationship built on mutual respect, and I’ve learned a lot from him. Also, Alan Wright, a new addition to the coaching staff, will be assisting, along with Jonny Evans, who has a solid connection to the club and recently played here. He knows the players well and is a familiar presence in the environment. These three will support me for the game tomorrow.”
Darren, there has been a lot of discussion about Manchester United recently. What’s your perspective on the current state of the club? As someone who embodies the spirit of Manchester United, do you feel it’s part of your role to help reconnect the club with its roots?
“Primarily, my task for this game is to secure a win against Burnley. Throughout my various roles at the club, including coaching the Under-18s, my focus has always been on doing what’s best for Manchester United, supporting the players and staff, and striving to help the club succeed. The expectation is for Manchester United to be at the top and competing for victories—that’s the standard we’ve set for ourselves. My goal is to contribute positively in whatever capacity I’m in to help achieve that.”
