Deal Nearly Finalized

Antoine Semenyo is on the brink of a significant transfer to Manchester City. Reports indicate that Semenyo’s representatives are in Manchester negotiating personal terms with club officials, as Pep Guardiola’s side looks to activate the player’s release clause. The 25-year-old has a €74.5m release clause in his contract with Bournemouth, valid from January 1 to January 10.
While several teams in the Premier League have shown interest in Semenyo, it appears that City is the only club to have formally approached Bournemouth. Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United have all expressed interest in the Ghanaian international; however, Semenyo favors a move to Guardiola’s squad. Personal terms are expected to be agreed upon quickly, making it likely that he will join the reigning champions shortly after the transfer window opens on Thursday.
Why Manchester City Wants Semenyo
Some might wonder why Manchester City is so keen on acquiring Semenyo given their already strong selection of players who can operate in wide positions. Semenyo has mostly played as a left winger, a role currently filled impressively by Jérémy Doku this season. Additionally, players like Savinho and Omar Marmoush can also play in that position, with the latter having been signed for €75 million from Frankfurt just last January.
Despite this, City clearly views Semenyo as a valuable market opportunity at a competitive price, believing he could play a crucial role in their pursuit of the Premier League title. Semenyo has been exceptional for Bournemouth over the past 18 months, contributing 12 goals this season—only Erling Haaland and Igor Thiago have more.
