Liga Portugal market values: Porto talent Froholt up by €8m - Simões increases by 150%

As the season reaches its midpoint, Transfermarkt has refreshed the market values for 477 players in Liga Portugal. Overall, there has been minimal movement, with Sporting CP’s Morten Hjulmand and Porto’s Samu Aghehowa maintaining their statuses as the highest-valued players in Portugal, each at €50 million. However, unlike the top 10 players, their valuations remain unchanged. The recent update primarily highlights the rising market values of younger players further down the list.

Liga Portugal: All new market values at a glance

One notable player is Victor Froholt, a 19-year-old who arrived last summer. “Despite being so young, he has quickly become a key starter, displaying significant talent,” said Gonçalo Tristão Santos, Transfermarkt Area Manager for Portugal. “He is among the most promising midfielders globally, and Porto is nurturing his potential effectively. He could become one of Portuguese football’s next big transfers.” Froholt’s market value has surged by 36.4%, rising from €22 million to €30 million.

Another talent to keep an eye on at Porto is William Gomes. “Though not yet a regular starter and often coming off the bench, he has significantly impacted FC Porto this season,” Santos noted. “He consistently adds a unique flair to the game. At just 19 years old, his quality stands out, and it’s only a matter of time before he secures a more prominent role in the first team.” This season, Gomes has netted seven goals in 22 matches across all competitions, leading to a market value increase of 33.3%, from €15 million to €20 million.

Liga Portugal Market Values: Rising Stars João Simões and Gianluca Prestianni

Beyond Porto, two other rising talents have made headlines in the December market value update. First up is Sporting’s João Simões, who has emerged as a standout this season. “He’s been a surprising addition to Sporting, and now he’s a regular starter under Rui Borges,” Santos remarked. “His young age and upward trajectory make him an exciting player to follow.” Simões’ market value skyrocketed by 150%, jumping from €6 million to €15 million.

Another young prospect is Gianluca Prestianni from Benfica. “He previously had potential but hadn’t showcased it fully until now. This season, he’s establishing himself and earning starts,” Santos explained. “His improvement and growing significance within the squad have boosted his market value.” The 19-year-old Argentine forward’s value increased by 50%, rising from €8 million to €12 million.

Understanding Transfermarkt Market Values

Transfermarkt’s market values are derived from various pricing models, heavily influenced by community evaluations. These market values should not be directly equated with transfer fees. The goal is to represent an expected player value in an open market, taking into account various transfer modalities and contextual factors. For a detailed understanding, Transfermarkt does not rely on algorithms (more information can be found in the market value definition here).
