Several years later, during an away match against our next opponents, Aston Villa, we ended the game in a thrilling 4-4 draw. David Pegg scored twice for us, following goals from Jackie Blanchflower and Colin Webster.

In January 1959, Bobby Charlton netted a penalty in a high-scoring 4-4 draw at home against Newcastle United. The following year, he again opened the scoring in another 4-4 encounter, this time away at Fulham, where Albert Quixall also contributed with two goals.

It wasn’t until a decade later that we experienced another exciting 4-4 match, this time at Derby County’s Baseball Ground. On Boxing Day, Denis Law scored twice, while George Best and Brian Kidd also added their names to the scoresheet in a captivating game.

In Division Two, we also witnessed an eight-goal thriller against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough in December 1974, with Lou Macari finding the back of the net twice. There was a long wait until the next high-scoring match against Everton in 2012.

Notably, in our history, we’ve had two 5-5 draws: one in 1895 against Lincoln City and the other in 2013, during the final game of Sir Alex Ferguson’s management, at West Brom.
