Aston Villa seems ready to kick off their January transfer window with an exciting prospect from Brazil's Série A. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Premier League club is on the verge of signing Grêmio winger Alysson in the upcoming transfer period. Reports indicate that Villa has reportedly agreed to pay an initial fee of €10 million for the 19-year-old, with an additional €2 million in potential add-ons. So, who is Alysson, and what can Villa fans anticipate from him in 2026?

Alysson ascended through Grêmio’s youth ranks, where he quickly earned recognition as a player deserving of an expedited promotion to the senior squad. He recorded seven goals and five assists in just 23 matches for Grêmio’s U20 team. Making his senior debut in July 2024, he came on as a substitute in a 3-0 loss to Juventude. However, it was during the most recent league season that Alysson truly showcased his talent, making 31 appearances primarily as a right wing-back or winger.

His standout performances at the senior level have contributed to a significant rise in his market value over the past year. After debuting with a preliminary market value of €100k, Alysson's valuation surged to €1 million by the summer of 2025 and skyrocketed to €8 million in the last six months. Villa fans should be excited to know that only three players under the age of 20 experienced a greater increase in market value within the Brazilian top-flight throughout 2025. According to Transfermarkt’s Brazilian football expert, Thiago Rabelo, this is just one of many indicators of Alysson's considerable potential.

“Alysson is a player who could have earned more playing time this season for Grêmio,” Rabelo remarked regarding Alysson’s progress in Brazil. “He is a robust player, possesses excellent speed while dribbling, and has a noteworthy left foot. His development was hindered by Grêmio's struggles, coupled with political issues and a reliance on more seasoned players to avoid relegation.” If Alysson completes his move to Villa for €12 million, he will become Grêmio’s fifth most expensive sale, tying with 18-year-old winger Gustavo Nunes, who transferred to Brentford the previous year. However, Rabelo cautioned against making too many comparisons between the two wingers.

“Alysson has a different profile than Gustavo Nunes, the striker who left Grêmio for the Premier League last season,” the Transfermarkt expert explained. “Nunes has good speed but lacks the physical strength needed for tougher encounters in the Premier League. Alysson, on the other hand, possesses more natural talent and potential. At just 19 years old, he still has time to build strength and adapt to the challenges of English and European football. While he may not be ready for high-stakes matches with Aston Villa just yet, he certainly has the potential to thrive in England.”
