Top 20 Teams Revealed

The debate over the best football teams in Europe often sparks intense discussions, especially at the start of the season when performances can be unpredictable. The new structure of the Champions League adds further complexity to these discussions. Remember, the level of competition varies from league to league each season. To assist in identifying the top-performing clubs from the leading leagues, Transfermarkt has compiled a ranking based on points-per-game (ppg) to ensure fairness among the Bundesliga and Ligue 1, which feature fewer teams and thus play fewer matches. Each week, we will unveil the top 20 teams from the Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1.
Current Top-Five League Standings
Leading the pack is Bayern Munich from the Bundesliga, boasting an impressive 2.83 ppg after 12 matches, despite their recent loss at the Emirates in the Champions League. In second place is Barcelona from LaLiga, with a noteworthy 2.47 ppg. Rivals Real Madrid sit in third with a 2.40 ppg average. Arsenal is currently the top team in the Premier League standings with 2.36 ppg, followed closely by Villarreal from LaLiga at 2.29 ppg. Rounding out the top six is Ligue 1’s Lens with 2.21 ppg, while RB Leipzig holds the seventh spot with a 2.17 ppg average.

Completing the top 10 are AC Milan and Napoli, both at 2.15 ppg (with Milan having a goal difference of 10 and Napoli 9), followed by Paris Saint-Germain with 2.14 ppg and a goal difference of 14. Manchester City and Aston Villa are the only other Premier League clubs in the top 20, with City ranked 16th at 2.00 ppg and Villa in 18th at 1.93 ppg. Notably, three LaLiga teams are represented among the top five.
