Four games remaining
At Real Madrid, goals are synonymous with Kylian Mbappé. The French forward displayed his brilliance once again on Wednesday as Los Blancos secured a solid 3-0 victory over Athletic Club in LaLiga. He netted two goals and provided an assist for the third, further solidifying his impact. With this performance, the Madrid No. 9 has scored in 15 out of 20 matches this season, totaling an impressive 25 goals across all competitions. Coupled with his remarkable form in the latter half of last season, Mbappé is poised to challenge several records previously set by the legendary Cristiano Ronaldo.
Since the beginning of 2025, Mbappé has found the back of the net 55 times in 55 matches across all competitions, placing him ahead of his counterparts in Europe’s top five leagues and giving him a nine-goal lead over second-placed Harry Kane of Bayern Munich. This astonishing tally not only elevates Mbappé above his peers but also positions him to rival Ronaldo’s historic records in Spain. While he hasn’t quite surpassed his idol yet, he is certainly trending in that direction.
Cristiano holds three of the best annual records in Real Madrid’s history
Examining Real Madrid’s all-time top scorers for a single year, Cristiano Ronaldo reigns supreme with 59 goals over a 12-month period. He also holds three other entries in the top five: the second-best record with 58 goals in 2012, the third-best with 56 goals in 2014, and the fifth-best with 54 goals in 2015. Following his outstanding performance on Wednesday, Mbappé has climbed to fourth place with 55 goals in 55 matches. With four games remaining in 2025, the French star needs to score another five goals to break Ronaldo’s record.
