Top 20 Teams Unveiled

Who are Europe's best football teams? - The current top-five league table based on points-per-game

There’s often intense debate surrounding the top teams in Europe, and at the beginning of each season, it’s particularly challenging to make a clear assessment. The changes in the Champions League league phase structure add to the complexity. It’s important to remember that standards vary significantly across different leagues each season. To address this and identify which teams from the top five leagues are performing best, we at Transfermarkt have created a comprehensive table. Each week, we will disclose the top 20 teams from the Premier League, LaLiga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1. To ensure fairness for the German and French leagues, which have fewer teams and thus fewer matches, the rankings are based on points-per-game (ppg).

Current Top-Five League Standings

At the forefront is Bayern Munich, who have achieved an impressive 3.00 ppg with a perfect 100% win rate from their first nine matches. Following closely in second place are Real Madrid from LaLiga, holding a commendable 2.72 ppg. Arsenal, the Premier League leaders, sit in third with 2.50 ppg. Meanwhile, RB Leipzig claims the fourth spot among Bundesliga teams with a 2.44 ppg record. Barcelona rounds out the top five with a 2.27 ppg, while Borussia Dortmund maintains the Bundesliga’s strong presence in sixth with 2.22 ppg. Serie A leaders Napoli currently stand in seventh place with 2.20 ppg.

Completing the top ten are Paris Saint-Germain (2.18 ppg, +12 goal difference), Inter Milan (2.10 ppg, +12 goal difference), and AC Milan (2.10 ppg, +8 goal difference). Notably, Manchester City is the only other Premier League team in the top 20, ranked 17th with 1.90 ppg. Additionally, three Bundesliga teams secure spots in the top six.
