After a moment of silence observed in honor of Remembrance Day later this month, the match commenced at a measured pace as both teams settled in.
As the intensity picked up, Blackburn seized the opportunity with Brandon Powell passing to Doherty, who was in a good position on the left side of the penalty area. Doherty made no mistake, delivering a powerful shot to the far-right corner of William Murdock’s net.
Minutes later, United came close to leveling the score when Victor Musa sent a low cross to Jayce Fitzgerald at the center. However, Fitzgerald’s attempt sailed just inches over the crossbar.
The situation worsened for United in the 39th minute when Albert Mills was sent off after committing a high challenge on Powell. Shortly after, Blackburn extended their lead with a strike from Joseph Boggan at the back post.
The referee signaled five minutes of stoppage time at the end of the half, and Blackburn took full advantage, as Valentin Joseph assisted Powell for a straightforward side-footed finish into the net.
