Ruben Amorim’s team delivered an impressive performance, but Mbeumo’s contributions were undeniably crucial, as reflected in the results.
Even before scoring twice in the second half, our no. 19 was a dynamic presence, nearly assisting both Bruno Fernandes and Benjamin Sesko during the first half. His skillful dribbling forced Carlos Baleba to foul him, earning the defender a yellow card to halt a fast break.
After the break, Mbeumo delighted the crowd with a brilliant nutmeg on Yasin Ayari, shortly before scoring a superb goal that had the majority of Old Trafford on their feet. His precise finish through the legs of defender Lewis Dunk extended the lead to 3-0, following earlier goals from Matheus Cunha and Casemiro.
Though that goal seemed to secure the victory, Brighton struck back with two goals. However, it was Mbeumo who steadied the nerves of the home crowd with a crucial stoppage-time goal. His left-footed shot ricocheted in off the underside of the crossbar and is sure to compete for our October Goal of the Month award.
