SECOND HALF

At the start of the second half, our opponents resumed play similarly to how they began the first, with Hester charging toward our goal and firing a shot that Freddie Heath expertly saved with a low dive.

However, like in the first half, we quickly regained control of the game, maintaining possession for most of the period.

United looked particularly threatening down the right flank, winning two fouls just outside the Sunderland box. Jim Thwaites took the shots on both occasions, but Jacob Watson and Edward Ibrovic-Fletcher, despite getting on the end of the crosses in the penalty area, both headed just wide.

As the final whistle approached, the Reds intensified their assault on the visitors’ defense. The breakthrough seemed imminent when the ball fell to Gabriel just outside the six-yard box in the dying moments, but he was unable to steer the opportunity on target.
