Discover the Top 20 Clubs
As the football season unfolds across major leagues, we find ourselves nearly 80% through the calendar year, resulting in significant shifts in market values among Europe’s elite clubs. Thanks to Transfermarkt’s regular updates, we now have insight into which teams have increased their market values since January. Some clubs’ rises are indeed surprising.
Typically, a team’s overall market value increases when players perform exceptionally well. However, clubs can also enhance their market value by acquiring high-value players or earning promotions to higher divisions. As shown in the graphic below, four clubs that have recently been promoted appear in the top 20. Burnley has made the list with a €67m boost in market value, just behind Paris FC (+€75m) in 16th place, while Como (+€184m) ranks fifth. Sunderland shines in second with a remarkable €223m increase. Notably, these rises can be attributed to significant investments in new players during the summer transfer window.
This trend is further evident in the clubs that made the largest summer investments. Liverpool, who spent €483m, ranks fourth with a €186m increase in market value. Chelsea’s €339m expenditure has led to a €113m rise, landing them in 12th place. Arsenal’s investment of €294m has resulted in a €159m market value increase, securing seventh position. Interestingly, despite Manchester United’s €251m spending, they do not appear in the top 20, while Nottingham Forest takes third place with a €237m increase, benefiting from solid performances in the Premier League last season.
Additionally, several of Europe’s powerhouse clubs are featured in the list. Barcelona ranks 15th with a €92m increase in market value, while Atlético Madrid (+€125m) and Roma (+€119m) take the 10th and 11th spots, respectively. Real Madrid narrowly misses the top five, achieving a €168m increase. However, the club that has experienced the largest increase in market value this year is Paris Saint-Germain. Remarkably, the Ligue 1 giants spent relatively little during the summer transfer window, suggesting that the €297m rise is largely due to the growth of players like Désiré Doué, Vitinha, and Ousmane Dembélé under Luis Enrique’s guidance.
