Significant Progress for Newcastle’s Striker

This October, Transfermarkt released its latest Premier League market value update, revealing significant shifts in player valuations. Among the most notable beneficiaries was Newcastle’s new striker, Nick Woltemade. He emerged as the biggest winner of the update, with his market value skyrocketing by an impressive €35 million to reach €65 million. This represents one of the largest single increases in Premier League history, reflecting both his outstanding performance and his transfer from Stuttgart for an initial fee of €75 million this summer.
While many may argue that Newcastle slightly overpaid in the rush to find a replacement for Alexander Isak, Woltemade has made a fantastic impression in his new colors, scoring in each of his first three Premier League matches at St James’ Park, including a stunning back-heel goal during Saturday’s loss to Brighton. His value surge places him alongside a select group of players who have experienced similar rapid ascents. Let’s take a look at the largest all-time upgrades in a single Transfermarkt market value update—those moments when football’s brightest talents quickly transformed into headline stars.
Largest Market Value Increases in Premier League History
The record for the biggest single update in Premier League market value belongs to the Egyptian sensation, Mohamed Salah, who saw a staggering increase back in May 2018. After netting 32 goals in the Premier League and an additional 10 in the Champions League during his inaugural season at Liverpool, Salah’s market value skyrocketed by €70 million, elevating it from €80 million to €150 million. Following this, there is a notable drop-off in the rankings, with four players receiving a €40 million boost. We’ve ranked these players based on their new market values. Kevin De Bruyne from Manchester City holds the second spot with a market value of €150 million as of January 2018. Third is Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, whose valuation jumped from €90 million to €130 million in December of the previous year.
Fourth is Tottenham’s Harry Kane, whose market value reached €120 million in January 2018, while Salah appears again in fifth place, having increased to €80 million earlier that same season—also in the January 2018 update. Three additional players achieved a €35 million upgrade. Former Liverpool winger Sadio Mané saw his market value rise from €85 million to €120 million in June 2019, while De Bruyne reappears in the top 10 with an increase to €110 million in January 2018. Woltemade, following his update this October, claims the eighth position. Manchester City’s Jérémy Doku rounds out the top nine with a €32 million increase to €60 million in November 2023, and former Chelsea star Eden Hazard finishes the list after a €30 million jump to €150 million in November 2018.
