Harry Kane demonstrated his exceptional prowess once again as Bayern Munich triumphed 2-1 over Borussia Dortmund in the 138th edition of Der Klassiker. Kane netted the opening goal in the 21st minute, marking his 400th career goal in senior football across 607 matches. His scoring tally includes 280 goals for Tottenham, 104 and counting for Bayern, along with nine for Millwall, five for Leyton Orient, and two for Leicester. “A couple of the guys mentioned it to me,” Kane remarked regarding the milestone, adding, “It is a nice one to reach.”

Kane's record at Bayern remains impressive, with 104 goals scored in just 107 appearances. This season, he is arguably in the form of his life, having found the net 12 times in seven Bundesliga matches. If he maintains this scoring rate, he could finish the season with a staggering 58 Bundesliga goals. Across all competitions, he has tallied 22 goals in 16 games, showcasing his remarkable pace. However, it wasn’t just his goal-scoring that showcased Kane's value against Dortmund; he played as a number 10, frequently dropping deep to support defensively as Dortmund pressed for an equalizer.

Harry Kane: "I am in the best shape of my career"

Reflecting on his role as a number 10, Kane stated, “I enjoyed that aspect today. I’m still there to score goals, but I dropped deeper when we didn't have the ball, working to defend our box well. Ultimately, I aimed to assist my teammates with my passing. There were many positives today. It's unfortunate we couldn't put the game to bed earlier. It was another good win over a competitor, allowing us to build a comfortable lead.” With this victory, Bayern Munich now holds a five-point advantage over RB Leipzig at the top of the Bundesliga table, increasing their lead over Dortmund to seven points.

Overall, it was an almost flawless evening for Bayern Munich. Kane's only critique post-game was allowing Dortmund back into the match after a dominant first-half display. “We were in control of the game,” Kane noted. “We should have been ahead by two or three goals at halftime. After that, Dortmund gained momentum and caused us some issues, but they were minor compared to our first-half performance.” Michael Olise extended the lead to 2-0 in the 79th minute, only for Julian Brandt to pull one back just two minutes later. “We were disappointed to concede so quickly after our second goal, but we found a way to secure the win. We had to defend our box effectively and could have potentially added one or two more goals on the counter.”

In those tense final moments, Kane showcased his full skill set, making crucial tackles and initiating counterattacks. “Physically and mentally, I feel like I'm in the best shape of my career,” Kane expressed. “I think that showed on the pitch today. I feel confident in my complete game. I'm eager to approach every match as we continue to work together. There's a special bond among the team right now, and we all put in the effort, which is a significant asset. I know I can contribute in various ways, not just by scoring, and the team recognizes this. We're leveraging that to achieve performances like today.”
