Amorim has expressed his confidence in his fellow countryman, predicting that he will maintain his penalty-taking duties despite having other options available in the squad. The head coach believes that Bruno will be prepared to step up if needed at Liverpool on Sunday, showcasing his typical poise from the penalty spot.
It’s worth noting that the last time we scored a penalty at Anfield was through Robin van Persie during the 2012/13 title-winning season. That marked only our third penalty scored at that ground since World War II, following efforts from Denis Irwin in 1999 and Roger Byrne in 1953. However, should referee Michael Oliver award a penalty this weekend, Fernandes will be more than ready to take on the challenge.
When asked about the possibility of changing the designated penalty taker, Amorim firmly stated: “No. I understand that it can be tough for him [Bruno], but I think he has taken around 70 penalties, missing only about nine.”
“There have been two missed during my time, so I’m quite frustrated about that!”
