Nottingham Forest has dismissed Ange Postecoglou after only eight matches and a brief 39 days in charge. The Australian manager was appointed to succeed Nuno Espírito Santo on September 9 by chairman Evangelos Marinakis. However, Postecoglou’s tenure was marred by a lackluster performance, ending without a single win in the Premier League. The final blow came with a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea, prompting Marinakis to leave his seat midway through the match. Postecoglou appeared isolated on the pitch as boos rang out from the crowd at the full-time whistle. Remarkably, just 15 minutes after the match ended, the club announced the 60-year-old’s departure from his managerial role—just 39 days into a three-year contract.

Postecoglou’s time as manager is now the shortest in Premier League history for someone who has left their position mid-season. He is only nine days behind Sam Allardyce, who ended his stint at Leeds United after 30 days, while earning a meager 0.25 points per game. There were few managers across Europe under as much pressure as Postecoglou, particularly with Forest fans discontented with the former Celtic manager’s performance. He leaves winless in his last 12 Premier League matches, dating back to his time with Tottenham Hotspur. He was let go from Spurs over the summer due to their 17th-place finish in the league, despite winning the Europa League. In 2025, no manager has lost more matches than Postecoglou (22).

Which managers have lost the most games in 2025?

According to Transfermarkt’s data on managers of top five league clubs across all competitions in 2025, Postecoglou has suffered the most losses. The former Celtic manager has overseen 40 matches for both Tottenham and Nottingham Forest but has lost 22 of them. Girona’s Míchel ranks second with 18 losses in 30 games.

Girona has thrived under Míchel in recent years, achieving promotion to LaLiga and qualifying for the Champions League, but currently finds itself third from bottom in the league this season. Interestingly, among the other coaches who have managed Premier League clubs in 2025, four also appear in the top 10 list for losses. Ruud van Nistelrooy and Kieran McKenna faced relegation with Leicester and Ipswich, respectively, while Vitor Pereira remains at Wolves. Rúben Amorim’s struggles at Manchester United are well-documented; the Portuguese manager has lost 15 of 39 games in 2025, including the Europa League final against Postecoglou’s Spurs.
