Premier League market values: Florian Wirtz and Bukayo Saka drop, Moisés Caicedo hits milestone

The Premier League, renowned as the most valuable league globally, has seen a significant update with 249 new market values added in the latest Transfermarkt update. The total valuation of the league surged by +€756.25 million, bringing the overall worth to €12.78 billion. Chief among the gainers is Newcastle’s newly-acquired striker Nick Woltemade, alongside Liverpool’s Alexander Isak and Brighton’s Carlos Baleba. Newcastle notably experienced the highest increase in squad value, while the only teams facing declines were Manchester City, Arsenal, and Aston Villa.

Woltemade emerged as the standout player in terms of market value appreciation. After joining Newcastle from Stuttgart for a hefty fee, his valuation soared by +€35 million, reaching €65 million. Other notable increases include Isak (+€20 million to €140 million) and Baleba (+€20 million to €60 million). Additional rises were seen by Fulham’s Kevin (+€18 million to €30 million), West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes (+€17 million to €32 million), and Crystal Palace’s Jaydee Canvot (+€16 million to €20 million). The steepest declines in value were noted for Manchester City’s Rodri and Phil Foden, both down by -€20 million to €90 million and €80 million, respectively.

Alexander Isak: Among the World’s Elite

Although Isak’s start at Liverpool hasn’t been dazzling, his recent trajectory has been impressive. Transfermarkt’s Premier League market value coordinator Ben Littlemore elaborates on Isak’s valuation increase, stating, “Everyone believed it would take a Premier League-record fee for Isak to move, and that’s exactly what happened. His initial transfer cost was €145 million, which justifies his new value of €140 million.” Despite needing time to adapt to Liverpool’s style, Isak remains a standout player, now ranked joint-sixth most valuable in the world.

Isak’s move paved the way for Woltemade’s transfer, with the German striker arriving at Newcastle for €85 million. Initially valued at €30 million, his price now reflects his performance, increasing to €65 million. Littlemore comments, “While some may feel Newcastle overpaid for Woltemade, his strong debut, including goals in his first three Premier League home matches, warranted a significant increase.” His teammate Sandro Tonali also saw a rise in market value from €60 million to €75 million following impressive midfield performances.

Florian Wirtz and Bukayo Saka Experience Value Drops

German midfielder Florian Wirtz arrived at Liverpool amid high expectations but has yet to make an impact, leading to a drop in his market value from €140 million to €130 million. Littlemore states, “Due to his initial high transfer fee, we felt a modest -€10 million reduction was reasonable, considering it’s early days and he’s only 22.”

Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka also faced a -€10 million downgrade, lowering his value to €140 million. “Following an injury-plagued period,” Littlemore explains, “a small adjustment seemed warranted while recognizing his immense talent.” The most significant hits in value were for Rodri and Foden, whose declines reflect their recent performances and fitness issues.

Moisés Caicedo Achieves €100 Million Milestone

Chelsea’s midfielder Moisés Caicedo has started the season impressively, with a standout performance against Liverpool that propelled his market value to €100 million—a notable achievement as he becomes the first Ecuadorian to reach this figure. Littlemore notes, “Many consider Caicedo among the top holding midfielders in the league. His effectiveness off the ball and continual improvement on it justify this increase.”

Liverpool Sees Mixed Results

Liverpool’s reshuffle extended beyond Isak and Wirtz, with midfielder Ryan Gravenberch earning a +€15 million increase to €90 million, recognizing his stature among Premier League holding midfielders. Dominik Szobozslai also saw an increase to €85 million, while new striker Hugo Ekitiké rose by +€10 million to €85 million following a strong start. Conversely, Mohamed Salah, Jeremie Frimpong, and Ibrahima Konaté experienced -€5 million drops in their market values.

Baleba and Wharton Both Hit €60 Million

Young talents Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton have both achieved impressive growth, now valued at €60 million each. Littlemore emphasizes their potential, stating, “Both are viewed as rising stars, with substantial interest from top clubs, making them highly sought after.” Baleba received the largest increase (+€20 million), while Wharton achieved a +€15 million rise.

Manchester City and Arsenal: Notable Losers

In terms of overall squad value, Manchester City and Arsenal were the biggest losers in this update, with Manchester City facing a decline of -€16 million and Arsenal a drop of -€11 million. Meanwhile, Newcastle led the way with a +€92.5 million increase in squad value, followed by Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth.

Understanding Transfermarkt Market Values

Transfermarkt’s market values are derived through a variety of pricing models, including detailed discussions within the Transfermarkt community. These values should not be equated with actual transfer fees. The aim is not to predict a specific price but to estimate a player’s expected market value under typical free market conditions, considering individual transfer specifics and situational factors.
