Jupiler Pro League market values: Greek talents shine - Promise David up by €2m

With the end of the transfer window, Transfermarkt has revised the market values for 138 players in Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League. This update has created a new most valuable player; Club Brugge’s Christos Tzolis has seen his market value rise by 20%, now valued at €30 million, surpassing his teammate Joel Ordóñez, who remains unchanged at €28 million.

Jupiler Pro League: All new market values at a glance

“Tzolis has been instrumental for Club Brugge and the Greek national team at the start of this season and, alongside Hans Vanaken, plays a key role in the club’s Champions League qualification,” said Bart Tamsyn, Area Manager for Belgium. “With six goals and eight assists in the first 17 games, if he maintains this form, a top transfer to a major league next summer appears likely.” Tzolis isn’t the only player at Club Brugge experiencing a significant increase in market value.

Joaquin Seys has also excelled for the club. “Following Maxime De Cuyper, he looks poised to be the next left-back from Club Brugge making a move to the Premier League,” Tamsyn noted. “This season, he is even more visible than last season and boasts impressive statistics for a full-back, with four goals and two assists in 14 games. He has also received call-ups to the Belgian national team in the last three instances but had to withdraw each time due to injury, which is currently his major concern.” Despite these injury challenges, Seys has seen his market value increase by 87.5%, from €8 million to €15 million.

Belgian market values: Karetsas & David rise – Stroeykens among reductions

Tzolis isn’t the only Greek player enjoying a notable market value increase. The 17-year-old emerging star Konstantinos Karetsas has also seen an upgrade. “Recognized as the top talent in the Belgian league for the past year, he is now a regular starter at KRC Genk,” Tamsyn said. Despite his team still finding its rhythm, Karetsas made an impact with the Greek national team earlier in September. It would be surprising if he does not break KRC Genk’s outgoing transfer record of €26 million by next summer,” leading to a 15% increase in his value from €20 million to €23 million.

Canadian national team forward Promise David is another player making gains. “With five goals in ten games, Promise David continues his scoring prowess from last season,” Tamsyn remarked. “He also became Union Saint-Gilloise’s first-ever goal scorer in the Champions League. While he isn’t the youngest player in the Belgian league at 24, if he keeps up this performance, Union might be able to command €20 million for him next summer.” His market value has risen from €11 million to €13 million, solidifying his position as the third most valuable Canadian player, behind Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich) and Jonathan David (Juventus).

However, there have also been some significant downgrades. RSC Anderlecht midfielder Mario Stroeykens has seen his market value decrease by €2 million to €10 million. Another notable downgrade is KAA Gent’s Mathias Delorge, who has dropped by €1 million to €8 million. Additionally, former Tottenham, Fenerbahçe, and Monterrey striker Vincent Janssen has experienced a €1 million decrease as well, now valued at €6 million, a 14.3% decline.

Understanding Transfermarkt Market Values

Transfermarkt’s market values are determined through various pricing models, significantly influenced by the Transfermarkt community, whose members engage in detailed discussions and evaluations of player values. Generally, these market values do not equal transfer fees.

The aim is not to predict a transfer price but rather to provide an estimated value of a player within an open market. Factors including individual transfer scenarios and situational attributes play a part in shaping market values. It’s important to note that Transfermarkt does not use any algorithms in this process (for a detailed market value definition, click here).
