MALARD IN FOR TERLAND
Skinner elaborated that Elisabeth Terland took a seat on the bench after Thursday’s impressive Champions League hat-trick because he believed Melvine Malard’s skills were particularly suited to the challenge of facing Arsenal.
“I think as part of our strategy, I need to embrace rotation,” the coach stated. “We discussed this with Teri. They’re not fond of sitting out, but they understand the importance of rotating the squad. Despite this, it can be tough for them. Teri has been amazing, and I assured her that she would continue to shine. I conveyed that to her after making the difficult choice.”
“I felt that Mel was better able to stretch Arsenal’s two center-backs; her unpredictability could disrupt their rhythm and create discomfort. I adapted our approach to facilitate central attacks as well, which was a crucial decision. I felt it was justified, and Mel delivered a strong performance. However, this doesn’t mean we can’t utilize Teri in future matches.”
