The summer's most significant transfer has been completed. Alexander Isak has officially joined Liverpool from Newcastle United.
According to Transfermarkt, both clubs have reached an agreement for a £125 million (€145m) transfer fee. While Newcastle may claim the deal is worth £130m (€150m), sources indicate this is a reflection of cost-saving measures rather than the actual amount Liverpool is paying. This transfer marks a new Premier League record, surpassing the previous record set by Liverpool earlier this summer for Florian Wirtz in a deal amounting to €125m, plus an additional €15m in easily achievable add-ons.

"It's been a long journey to get here," Isak said in an official club statement. "But I’m thrilled to join this team and this club, representing everything it stands for. It’s a source of pride for me, and I can't wait to get started. I look forward to meeting my teammates and the fans, and getting back on the pitch."
Earlier this window, Liverpool made a notable bid for Isak, but it was dismissed outright, causing the Reds to reconsider their strategy for a second offer. At that time, Newcastle was determined to retain the 25-year-old Swedish striker, primarily due to their difficulties in finding a suitable replacement.
Newcastle had already been outbid by Liverpool in attempts to sign Hugo Ekitike from Frankfurt and Benjamin Sesko from Leipzig.

Over the weekend, Newcastle successfully signed a suitable replacement for Isak, acquiring German star striker Nick Woltemade. Woltemade, who was previously linked to a move to Bayern Munich, found his transfer to Newcastle possible when the German giants failed to meet Stuttgart's asking price. The final deal was worth €85m, with an additional €5m in add-ons, which cleared the way for Newcastle to allow Isak to depart.

Alexander Isak Deal – Liverpool's Spending Approaches €500m

The Isak transfer rounds out what has been a remarkable summer for Liverpool. Under manager Arne Slot, the club has already spent nearly €340m on new signings this window. With the addition of Isak, total spending is now set to near €500m. No club has invested more in new players this summer. In terms of net expenditure, Liverpool's outlay of €260m ranks second, just behind Arsenal at €285m. Liverpool has generated €219.5m from player sales this summer, featuring moves like Luis Díaz’s €70m transfer to Bayern Munich, enabling Slot to reshape his squad after clinching the Premier League title last season.

Acquiring Isak represents the final piece in Liverpool's quest to maintain their Premier League supremacy. The Swedish striker is among the most distinctive forwards in the modern game; despite his height, Isak possesses remarkable speed and agility, capable of moving as if he were much smaller. After being signed for €70m from Real Sociedad in 2022, Isak has flourished under Eddie Howe, notching 54 goals and providing ten assists in 86 Premier League appearances. Despite his success at Newcastle, Isak was seeking a new challenge this summer and had been absent from the club due to a lingering injury—an issue likely to resolve itself now that he has signed with Liverpool.
