Significant Sell-On Clause

Antony is poised to make his return to Real Betis following an agreement between the Spanish club and Manchester United. The Brazilian winger enjoyed a successful loan spell at Betis last season, netting nine goals and providing five assists in 26 appearances. The deal is reported to be a permanent transfer worth €25 million, with an additional €3 million in potential bonuses.
United has negotiated a 50% sell-on clause for any profit Betis might make from a future transfer of the Brazilian talent. The negotiation process was complex, with Betis initially considering withdrawing due to financial disagreements, but those issues have now been resolved. Antony has accepted a substantial pay cut to facilitate his move back to Betis, and the 25-year-old was hoping Manchester United would help cover this reduction.
Antony Leaves Manchester United on Permanent Basis
It’s safe to say that Antony’s tenure at Old Trafford has not lived up to expectations. United made a significant financial commitment to bring him in from Ajax in 2022, as manager Erik ten Hag sought to reunite with the player. Antony remains the second most expensive signing in United’s history at €95 million, only behind Paul Pogba’s transfer at €105 million. Although he started his United career strong with a goal in his debut against Arsenal, he struggled to adapt to the rigors of English football, ultimately contributing to just 17 goals in 96 matches for the club.
