“You can’t insist that we consistently use five defenders. It’s not accurate to say we’re always set up with four defenders or three defenders either.
“My goal is to coach my players based on my vision.
“I often reiterate: this is where the enjoyment lies. If my sole focus was on winning or adhering strictly to a 4-3-3 formation, I wouldn’t be here.
“When I was approached before arriving here, they asked if I could adapt to this different system. I made it clear that I would stick to my approach. If that works for you, great. However, down the road, I might wake up one day and realize that changing is necessary for my football philosophy. If that’s the case, I’ll make that change immediately. My primary goal is to win.
