Liverpool and Arsenal dominate: Premier League stars select PFA team of the season

The 2025/26 Premier League season kicked off last weekend, yet the crème de la crème of English football gathered on Tuesday night to honor the previous season. The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) held its annual awards ceremony at Manchester’s Opera House, distributing various prestigious accolades voted on by players rather than journalists or fans.

Morgan Rogers was honored with the PFA Young Player of the Year award after a stellar season at Aston Villa, where he achieved eight goals and 11 assists in the Premier League. Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah secured the main award, contributing 47 goals for Liverpool as they clinched a record-equalling 20th top-flight title—marking Salah’s third time receiving this accolade. Additionally, Premier League players voted for their Team of the Season, resulting in some notable selections.

Unsurprisingly, Liverpool had the highest representation in the PFA Team of the Year, with four members of Arne Slot’s title-winning squad making the cut: captain Virgil van Dijk, Salah, Ryan Gravenberch, and Alexis Mac Allister. New signing Milos Kerkez also made the team after joining from Bournemouth.

Arsenal, finishing as runners-up for the third consecutive season, saw three of Mikel Arteta’s squad recognized by their peers: William Saliba, Gabriel, and Declan Rice. Nottingham Forest’s impressive campaign earned Matz Sels and Chris Wood spots in the XI. Notably, Alexander Isak was absent from the ceremony amid a standoff with Newcastle over his desire to join Liverpool, yet he still made the team. Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes was also nominated for Player of the Year but did not attend the event.
