Have you set your team objectives for this season?

“Our goal is to return to European competition. However, as the Manchester United coach, it’s challenging to make such statements confidently. We must be realistic with our supporters, as we will be in for a tough battle. Numerous strong teams have had more time to develop cohesively. Nevertheless, we are committed to the fight. Improvement is essential, and our focus needs to be on each match individually. If we start thinking too far ahead about the season’s outcome, it could become problematic. Right now, our priority is to secure a win against Arsenal—that’s our main objective.”

You clearly have intimate knowledge of Viktor Gyokeres from your time at Sporting. He joined your team without any Premier League experience and ended up scoring 97 goals in 102 appearances. Did you recognize potential in him that others overlooked? Did his development surpass your expectations?

“That’s more of a question for Mikel, but Viktor operates on a different level; the physical demands are unique. At Sporting, we have an excellent scouting network that helps us identify players we can acquire and later sell to sustain the club. I believe he’ll bring distinct qualities to our squad. The dynamics will change depending on whether we face Viktor or Havertz, for example, so we must be prepared. It’s not surprising to see Viktor at a prominent club in England.”

Rasmus didn’t get any playing time against Fiorentina, and there’s speculation about a potential sale this window. What’s his status, and does he remain a part of your selection plans?

“He remains one of our options. Our focus is on the current game, and Rasmus is still a member of our squad.”

Regarding the midfield, are you looking to bring in a new player?

“I’m quite pleased with our current players. They’re training hard, and we have various options for that position, so we’re equipped to win matches with our current roster.”

Do you think there are players who could fill a midfield role despite not being traditional midfielders?

“Perhaps Mason Mount could play in that position if we seek a different approach. As the season progresses, we’ll discover more about our players. We have the depth to compete effectively in the Premier League.”
