Few players epitomize the journeyman label quite like Álvaro Morata. The 32-year-old has made yet another move this summer. The Spanish international joined Galatasaray on loan from AC Milan in January, but his exit from the Istanbul club has turned complicated. Following the permanent transfer of Victor Osimhen, Morata was considered surplus to requirements and AC Milan found a new club for him—Como, marking the eighth club of his professional career.

The deal faced challenges since Galatasaray had paid approximately €6 million to AC Milan for the initial loan, which included an €8 million obligation to purchase in January 2026. Although Gala was willing to release Morata to sidestep the obligation, they sought compensation for their €6 million investment. Como initially agreed to pay €3 million to facilitate an early termination, especially since Morata refused to return to pre-season training in Türkiye. After prolonged negotiations, terms were reached for an early loan termination on August 10th, allowing Morata to reunite with Cesc Fàbregas at Como.

On Tuesday evening, Como announced the signing of Morata on an initial loan deal, which includes an obligation to buy. Reports indicate that Como will pay AC Milan an initial loan fee of €1 million, with the buyout clause set at €9 million. Morata ranks sixth in terms of total transfer fees in football history and has won titles across Italy, Spain, and Türkiye, including two Champions League trophies. He has previously played alongside his new manager Fàbregas while representing Spain and Chelsea.

Commenting on Morata’s acquisition, Fàbregas stated: “I've known Álvaro for many years and have always admired his playing style and demeanor. He’s an astute striker who performs in critical moments and uplifts those around him. We’re thrilled to have him join us at Como.”
