For those who had observed Mbeumo’s growth, his standout performance came as no surprise. He had already made his senior debut for Troyes in a 1-0 Ligue 1 victory over Metz and added three more appearances that season, marking a personal success despite the team’s relegation to Ligue 2.
This relegation ultimately created ample opportunities for Mbeumo to excel in the following season. He scored 11 goals in 40 matches, playing a crucial role in Troyes’ quest for immediate promotion, although their campaign ended in disappointment with a loss to Lens in the play-off semi-finals.
His remarkable performances as a teenager showcased Mbeumo’s promising future, drawing interest from multiple Ligue 1 clubs. The next step in his career came soon after, as Brentford secured his services for £5.4 million in August 2019.
