Jamie Gittens is on the verge of joining Chelsea FC, as Borussia Dortmund has confirmed a deal in principle with the Premier League giants. The 20-year-old England U21 international had previously been the subject of two rejected bids from Chelsea, but the summer transfer window has now unlocked fresh negotiations—resulting in what appears to be a breakthrough.

€64 Million Deal Nearing Completion

Chelsea’s earlier attempts to secure Gittens were met with resistance. An initial €35 million offer was turned down, followed by a €50 million bid that also fell short. In response, Dortmund raised their valuation to €65 million, ultimately agreeing to part with the winger for around €64 million. Gittens is expected to sign a long-term deal that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2032.

“The negotiations with Chelsea were challenging,” admitted Dortmund Sporting Director Sebastian Kehl. “Jamie is an exceptional player… he expressed a desire to move on, and we wish him every success in the next chapter of his career.”

Chelsea has not yet made an official announcement.

What Can Chelsea Expect from Jamie Gittens?

Gittens joined Borussia Dortmund in 2020 on a free transfer and rapidly rose through the ranks. In the 2024/25 Bundesliga season, he registered five goals and four assists in just 15 league appearances, catching attention with his pace and attacking flair.

Initially a favorite under Nuri Şahin, Gittens’ fortunes changed after Niko Kovač took over as head coach. With a stronger emphasis on defensive discipline, Gittens found himself benched in favor of more well-rounded players. Though his one-on-one ability remains a highlight, his tactical versatility and defensive work rate have been called into question.

Compared to teammate Karim Adeyemi, Gittens has struggled to adapt to multiple attacking roles and is not yet considered a consistent finisher.

Will He Succeed in the Premier League?

Despite a few limitations, Gittens remains one of Europe’s most promising young attackers. While Dortmund originally hoped for €100 million, the finalized fee reflects a more realistic valuation in today’s market. His blistering pace, combined with his potential to grow tactically, makes him an intriguing project for Chelsea.

If he adapts quickly to the intensity of the Premier League, Gittens could become a standout figure in Chelsea’s new generation of attacking talent.
