The renowned Spaniard was honored with a prestigious award on June 27 at the residence of the British Ambassador to Spain, Sir Alex Ellis, in Madrid.
Mata’s MBE acknowledges his remarkable accomplishments in football, including victories in the World Cup and European Championship with Spain, along with two Europa League titles, a Champions League title, an FA Cup, and a Carabao Cup at the club level.
Additionally, Juan’s accolade recognizes his philanthropic efforts. In 2017, he co-founded Common Goal, an initiative designed to leverage the football industry for social change by encouraging its members to donate one percent of their earnings. To date, over 250 footballers and coaches have joined this movement.
