UNDERSTANDING THE SUMMER SERIES
United’s clash with Everton will mark the final match in our inaugural participation in the Premier League’s Summer Series, a round-robin tournament featuring four teams.
The event consists of three matchdays, each held in a different city across the U.S., with two consecutive games taking place in the same stadium. United will first compete against West Ham in New Jersey and then take on Bournemouth in Chicago, before concluding the series in Atlanta.
As in the standard Premier League format, teams earn three points for a win and one point for a draw, with no extra time if the match ends in a tie after 90 minutes. The team with the highest points total at the end of the Atlanta leg will claim the trophy. Should two teams have the same points, the tie will be resolved based on goal difference, then total goals scored, and lastly, the outcome of their direct meeting.
While there is a clear motivation to secure the title, these matches also play a critical role in preparing us for the upcoming Premier League season, where we aim to improve upon last year’s performance against three clubs we will encounter in the top tier next season.
